Antrodia Cinnamomea Prolongs Survival in a Patient with Small Cell Lung Cancer
Authors: Huei Long, Chi-Tan Hu, and Ching-Feng Weng
Journal: Medicina
Study Design: Case report
Patient: An 88-year-old male with small cell lung cancer (SCLC)
Intervention: Dish-cultured Antrodia cinnamomea (DAC) with an increasing dosage from 5 g/day up to 10 g/day for 6 months
Outcome Measures:
- Tumor size
- Survival time
- Quality of life
- Laboratory examinations (blood sugar, liver and kidney function, etc.)
Summary:
This case report describes the effects of DAC on an 88-year-old male patient with SCLC who declined conventional cancer treatments. The patient was treated with DAC for 6 months, which led to a substantial reduction in tumor size and significant improvement in his overall health. The patient survived for 32 months after the initial diagnosis, exceeding the expected survival time for SCLC patients without treatment. The authors suggest that DAC may have anti-cancer effects and can be used as a complementary medicine to prolong survival and improve the quality of life in SCLC patients. Sources and related content
