Journal: International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms
Study Design: Blinded randomized trial
Participants: 5 male volunteers, randomly assigned to either a placebo group or an Agaricus brasiliensis supplementation group
Intervention:
- Agaricus brasiliensis supplement: Administered for 24 days
- Placebo group: Received an inert substitute
- Exercise protocol: High-intensity resistance training sessions
Outcome Measures:
- Muscle strength performance before and after resistance training
- Perceived muscle soreness
- Oxidative stress and redox balance
Summary:
This study evaluated the potential of Agaricus brasiliensis supplementation to enhance muscular strength and recovery in individuals undergoing resistance training. After 24 days of supplementation, participants in the Agaricus brasiliensis group demonstrated improved rapid strength within training sessions, likely due to the antioxidant and redox-balancing properties of the mushroom. However, no significant changes were observed in other training-related parameters. These findings suggest that Agaricus brasiliensis may aid in reducing muscle fatigue and enhancing short-term strength output, making it a potential supplement of interest for fitness and athletic performance.
